PST IS TURNING 5....ALL MONTH LONG!!!!

It's rare that a weekly party survives more than a few months -- music trends, the vagaries of nightlife, and the ever-important "cool" factor often conspire to make even quality events the kind that burn bright, and fizzle out in a short period of time.

Pacific Standard Time is special, not only because we have reached our 5 year anniversary this month, but because we have remained relevant, innovative, and community-rooted. PST is a Bay Area mainstay -- an event that remains consistenty packed, beloved and buzzworthy -- while holding a reputation worldwide due to the folks who have visited, performed, and heard about our little Thursday night party over the years.

We are excited to celebrate our 5th anniversary this week -- and we are flying in Philadelphia's ambassador to the music world, KING BRITT for his PST debut! He will rock alongside our resident DJ Sake One for a night of music that should re-affirm the PST mantra -- all things soulful, nothing off limits, everyone dancing.

PLEASE JOIN US THIS THURSDAY NIGHT, as we kick off a month of dope events at PST to celebrate our 5 year anniversary. Amazing DJs, live performers, the Bay Area's best and brightest community organizers, educators, tastemakers, artists, musicians and game- changers -- all watches synchronized to Fresh Coast Time.

Our able host, Fran Boogie and dance instructors CME & Jamon, alongside the Ankh Marketing family an our friends from Eve Lounge, all welcome you to come to our home and get down for our birthday party.

We will hold a place for you on the dance floor.

HARDCORE CUPCAKIN' 3 | FREE MIXTAPE DOWNLOAD

I am pleased to present a free download of this year's HARDCORE CUPCAKIN' mixtape installment. This annual mix is intended to be a sarcastic, yet musically relevant, comment on tha wackness that is Valentine's Day. This year's musical theme involved an exploration of some of tha music that I was exposed to as a young dude; with an older brother who was heavy into tha Mod scene in SF, i often heard ska, rocksteady and bluebeat records from Jamaica on my brother's boombox, in addition to tha predominant hip-hop, R&B and pop songs we both enjoyed. I recently returned to collecting some of this music, English "2 Tone" ska from tha 80s as well as rare Jamaican sides from tha 60s and 70s that formed tha blueprint for modern reggae and dancehall music. I do hope you enjoy it...

Special thanks to DJ Similak Chyld for all her help with getting tha physical CD and artwork completed.

A 320kbps MP3 copy of tha mix can be downloaded HERE.

CD artwork & tracklising can be downloaded HERE.

ask me any darn question you want!!!!!

Tha homie DJ Stylus hipped me to this odd new social networking phenomenon, perhaps tha zenith of self-referential culture and collective mental masturbation -- and thus, i JUMPED ON IT!!! lol....

Go ahead. Ask me questions.

I DARE YOU.

Tha ORIGINAL Fraudcast

This is a mixtape made roughly six years ago, if iriemember correctly it was shortly after a breakup and although i made it for myself, i feel pretty certain listening to it today that i was just too shook to give it to my ex, who it was REALLY for.

i gave some folks a copy of it about a year later, as alot of tha music had a holiday/winter feel. folks generally liked it, even though tha music contained on tha mix is pretty much tha OPPOSITE of a party.

found tha master CD while cleaning out and, being that this is a Thursday (when i normally do my podcast on www.alldayplay.fm -- studios are closed for tha holidays this week, however) i figured i'd post it for you and yours.

you may wanna put a jacked on first.

NYE, DJ Edits, y que...

Just back from NYC, where we finished 2009's Eastern Standard Time monthly sessions with a great night of music, in 15 degree weather (ouch). Shout out to DJ Ge-ology who came thru despite being quite sick (tha Louis Vuitton SARS mask was a classy, and contemporary, touch homie), to Tania of 11th Parallel, DJ Engine, Swash Boogie of Parlour Magazine, DJ Eleven, MoMa, DJ Myles, Crazylegs of Rocksteady Crew, DJ Parler, Sutra NYC, and all tha folks who made tha year end closer so much fun.

I had about 45 minutes to kill at SFO before my flight out on Thursday morning, and made a quick DJ edit (8 bar intro, a tad unconventionally arranged but hopefully useful; I also sped tha BPMs up a notch) of tha new Jay Electronica and Just Blaze collaboration, "Exhibit C." Followers of this blog know I am a big fan of Jay Electronica and this joint has received a TON of well-deserved hype since being previewed on satellite radio a couple months ago. Its FINALLY available comercially -- PLEASE support quality (independent!) hip-hop and purchase tha song at iTunes!!

For my DJs, here's tha intro edit of Exhibit C -- play it early and often!!!

Jay Electronica, "Exhibit C" (Sake1 DJ Edit)
-- produced by Just Blaze

And because its tha holiday season, and WINTER, another (much older) edit as a stocking stuffer =)

Outkast, "Intro (You May Die)" (Sake1 Winter Sadness Edit)

Wanted to let folks know where I will be on NYE, since most people like to party like Keith Richards on that particular night....

Doing an early set with tha fam, Mind Motion and Personal Touch SF at tha Hilton Grand (!!) in downtown SF, featuring a red carpet, and an upscale vibe. For more info on that event, click HERE...

To bring in tha New Year with a BANG BANG BOOGIE, I am very pleased to be rocking later that night at Luka's for NEW YEAR'S EAST...appropriate since 2009 saw Oakland become a world-class destination for music and nightlife. Thrilled to be rocking with superb DJs and homies Platurn and DJ Mere of tha Oakland Faders and some VERY special guests as we count down to 2010 and whyle out as tha new year begins.

EARLY ARRIVAL STRONGLY SUGGESTED!!! LUKA'S IS NOT A HUGE VENUE, SO MAKE SURE YOU ARRIVE IN TIME AND GET IN!!!
